CABERNET SAUVIGNON & BORDEAUX
VARIETIES MASTERCLASS
Bordeaux is the legendary prestigious wine region located on the South West Atlantic coast of France. Home to the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, this region with a cool maritime climate and deep gravel soils, produces complex long living structured wines. The region is probably the most respected in the world for oak handling and barrel influence on wine flavour. A prestige wealthy region, the property names are a roll call of famous Chateau names. The communes are legendary – Margaux, St Julien, Pauillac, St Estephe, Pomerol, St Emilion, Left Bank, Right Bank, Graves. The grape varieties have travelled well – to Napa Valley, California; South Africa, NZ and Australia – particularly Coonawarra, Margaret River, Yarra Valley and Mudgee in Australia..
Taste the style and length of Cabernet – its differences to other reds such as Shiraz; the influence of expensive oak barrels; the capacity to age; the award winning examples; comparisons of Australia, NZ, Napa Valley and Bordeaux. Compare Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot.
We believe this to be an outstanding evening, highlighting the independent educational role Ewine and All About Wine play in wine education. It deserves our maximum participation.
