2012 Vintage Report

Wine production in 2012 is 4% higher than the troubled 2011 Vintage. Expectations from most regions are that 2012 will be considered a standout Vintage. The 2012 Rieslings are proving to be spectacular from all recognised regions. Production of Red and White varieties are equal with Shiraz and Chardonnay leading, Shiraz is slightly higher in volume with a greater volume being exported. Pinot Gris and Grigio are both increasing in volume and quality, fortunately wine marketing is beginning to correctly label either “Gris” or “Grigio.” You should find Grigio dry, light bodied and high acidity. Your typical “Gris” will be higher in alcohol, richer, medium to full bodied and could have residual sugar and sweetness.

Western Australia, in particular Margaret River, continued with the seventh year on record to produce fruit and wine of superior quality. You can’t go wrong with the 2012 Wines coming on the market, open, enjoy and cellar a few.
