Italian Red Varietal Wines

A Virtual Wine Tour of Italy 2019

The Wine Regions of Italy are as diverse as any other European Country. In the North, Lombardia and Trentino are influenced by the Swiss and Austrian Wine Producers, while Sicily and Sardinia are influenced by the wines produced in the regions of the Iberian Peninsula (the term for Spain and Portugal). Sangiovese is the staple Wine Varietal of Italy and different clones and styles of Sangiovese are not only produced in ”Tuscany” but also in “Lazio” near Rome, “Umbria” near Perugia, “Abrusso” near L’Aquila along with the Regions of “Marches” and “Emilia Romagna”.

Italy has 20 official Wine Regions, these wine regions correspond to the country’s political Regions.

The Italian National strengths of Passion, Originality, Diversity and Character as well as Wines Mealtime Context has helped to build and maintain quality in Italian Wine as the Nations preferred Beverage.

In this class we’ll examine Winemaking Methods and Wine Styles that focus on Food. We’ll enjoy the Wine of Tuscany and discover the importance of Sangiovese.
