New Zealand in a Glass
New Zealand in a Glass will be held again in 2013 in Brisbane this year, a little later as Brisbane will be the last port of call this side of the ditch on Monday the 14th of March 2013.
The venue is yet to be confirmed but the Convention Centre at South Bank is most likely. I will keep you posted.
Monday night is one of the best consumer tastings, where you will taste wine from New Zealand’s ten registered wine regions. Some of you could be forgiven to think New Zealand was only Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Central Otago Pinot Noir.
These are great, but make sure you make the most of the “New Zealand in a Glass Tasting.” Try Chardonnay from around Martinborough in the “Wairarapa” Region. Delightful Riesling from “Nelson,” Merlot and Cabernet from “Hawke’s Bay,” Syrah from “Waipara” and tantalizing Pinot Gris from “Central Otago.”
Konrad wines will be one to visit, Konrad Hengster, originally from Germany, has a very Germanic twist on his delightful Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc wines from the “Waihopai” & “Wairau” Valleys in the Marlborough Region.
Konrad wines also produce two fabulous Pinot Noir wines and a lovely Trochenbeerenauslese style dessert wine made from Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc called “Sigrun Noble Two.” Two of Konrads wines will be featured in the “Riesling & Germanic Whites” Master Class to be held on the 21st of March 2013.
Another Australian/Italian/German Varietal to look out for at the show is the “Gruner Veltliner,” a surprising aromatic white wine. There should be a few available to taste and buy mainly coming from the Marlborough Region.
Don’t miss this fabulous celebration of New Zealand Wine at a time when it is great to enjoy those cool aromatics.
